Rupture
In August 2020, at the height of the pandemic, I tore the rotator cuff on my right shoulder. After surgery and many months of physical therapy, it was uncertain if I would regain full range of motion. I didn’t know if I could ever paint again. Severed from my art, my spirit felt broken.
Rupture expresses the loneliness, isolation and pain I felt during this time. This is 1 of 3 pieces I painted with my left, non-dominant, hand.
